Going Natural Part 1 — Toothpaste

Activated charcoal with salt for brushing teeth was the norm in my childhood. Gargling using salt water was a solution for almost all mouth related issues. Some days I remember using cleaning twigs made from mango tree. Or may be Ayurvedic tooth powders. People rarely used to get dental diseases, even if they get was because of tobacco. I had rarely seen dental hospitals around.

Then came toothpaste — white or colored paste with bunch load of chemicals. It came with its own business ecosystem — plastic toothbrush, toothbrush holder and so on. A normal human instead of starting their day with something good, uses this toothpaste and puts it on a plastic brush and starts brushing. Thus we start our beautiful day with bunch of chemicals and micro plastics. Mouth is one part of body where chemicals gets absorbed very well. What a wonderful way to start your day.

Fast forward, people wanted more shortcuts, thus came instant whitening toothpastes and other varieties with more chemicals. Think about the factories that produce these, which in turn creates so much environmental pollution. Think about the chemicals we spit out which goes to the water drain and then may make it back to us.

People fight against chemical factories for polluting water and endangering people around. You don’t get the irony don’t you. More you use these chemical products which is anyway the worst thing to do to you in the morning , more you make these corporations to build such factories.

We can all make a difference, start with 80 -20 rule. Start with may be weekends with natural toothpaste or may be activated charcoal or even just pure sea salt. Start doing that for your kids, for the people you love.

Time to unlearn what we were taught, every small change that you make can have a huge impact to the people you love.
