Scorpion vs Elephant

Yet another hot day and my eyes were wandering around for a sight which I don’t want to see. And there it is, a huge scorpion coming inside from my Garage.

Without hesitation and sympathy, I instantly killed it as it is threat to my family. I also keeps a sticky trap to catch it. Some days I see some harmless lizard gets caught on that. I wish I could avoid it but I don’t think there is a way around it. It is about survival and protecting my family. Like any other animal in this planet, my instinct is to survive.

Imagine I replace the scorpion with wild boar and the lizard with the elephant. You get the irony, don’t you?

There is a huge cry about the pineapple cracker and elephant in Kerala. Of course we are all sorry for what happened, I don’t think anyone is to blame if it was done for the survival of a farmer and protecting the crops which may be his or her only source of income. The very crops which may be very well consumed by some of the same people who may be criticizing the incident so much.

Why do we feel so sorry when an elephant is killed but not when a mosquito or a scorpion is killed?

It is because elephant has a cute picture in our brain vs an insect like mosquito or scorpion or a lizard.

It is easy to blame and sympathize which may be very well triggered artificially to get sympathy and hits to their websites.

When the whole world blames someone, take a step back, step into their shoes and think.

If you had a farm, imagine those crops were your only income, don’t you want to protect it from wild boars? Don’t you want to feed your family? Will you care, what if some other animal falls in that trap? What will you do if you were that farmer?
